Conveniently located just outside our front door is the entire state of Texas, with the very best parts being nearby.
We are cowboy-adjacent. From rodeos to roundups, the old West is right here, where the deer and the antelope play.
Alpine is a small town, but we think big. We have street festivals, air shows, hot air balloon extravaganzas, holiday picnics, church bazaars, chili cook-offs, cattle auctions, and lots of parades. There’s even a railroad leading directly to Alpine from both the east and the west.
Take in a Pecos League baseball game at the “Wrigley-Styled” Kokernot Field. Sample the next event at the rejuvenated Granada Theater. Check out Sul Ross University for sporting events, the Big Bend Western Museum, or the next student rodeo. Take a walk on historic Holland Avenue and sample the boutiques, galleries, and cafes.
And, we’re in a pretty interesting neighborhood.
Just down the road, you can enjoy the spectacular vistas and wildlife of the Big Bend National Park. This is the wild west that everyone was bragging about and it hasn’t changed (excepting that it’s a bit safer these days, what with modern medicine and all).
That’s why Fort Davis is nearby. Fort Davis is the town, named after Fort Davis the actual cavalry fort. It’s still there.
Just a few miles up space mountain is the McDonald Observatory, earth’s window to the stars, the distant past, and infinity.
Stop by Marfa for the arts. It’s home to the Judd Foundation and Chinati Foundation, plus a surprising number of art galleries and Ballroom Marfa, a cultural arts center. Marfa Public Radio is the area’s take-along music station. And the Marfa Mystery Lights are guaranteed to baffle you (or your money back).
Visit metropolitan Terlingua for world champion chili cook-offs, rafting down the canyons of the Rio Grande, or a visit to the cemetery in the Ghost Town, home of the Starlight Theatre’s gourmet dining.
Along the way, stop by Presidio, Marathon and Valentine.
Whether you bring your bicycle, horse, Harley, hot-air balloon, or river-raft, you’ll be exhausted by the end of the day and ready for a nap in your comfy Holland Hotel nest.
Later, you can explore Alpine’s nightlife without ever getting back in your car.
